In his first visit to Cairo since assuming office, Prime Ministry of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim expressed with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi his firm rejection of the forced displacement of the Palestinians from Gaza expressing their concern about the ongoing violence in the region.

According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi and Ibrahim affirmed that the only just resolution of the current situation lies in international cooperation toward a two-state solution in accordance with international law, preserving the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

During their meeting, El-Sisi discussed the conclusions of the Cairo Peace Summit where both leaders agreed on the need to coordinate efforts to achieve de-escalation and provide necessary protection for Palestinian civilians.

They emphasized the importance of providing continued, secure and prompt access to humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza.

The Malaysian PM arrived in Egypt from Turkey on Sunday. Ibrahim is currently on a regional tour that started in Saudi Arabia, where he attended the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (ASEAN-GCC) Summit two days ago.

Aside from the situation in Gaza, both leaders also discussed key regional and international issues of common interest, including counterterrorism.

The Malaysian Prime Minister commended Egypt’s efforts in this regard, considering it a beacon for the Islamic world, especially through the role of Al-Azhar.

They expressed their aspiration to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly through joint investments in industry, telecommunications, information technology, infrastructure, and food security.
