Western claims of British forces being deployed between Egypt and the Gaza Strip are false and have no basis in reality, an informed source told Al-Qahera News on Thursday.
These remarks come after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that “UK border force” teams are “pre-positioned” in Egypt to assist British citizens trying to leave Gaza.
“So that if our nationals can cross the Rafah crossing, we would be ready to get them in and bring them back,” Sunak told reporters on Thursday, adding that around 200 British citizens stuck inside the besieged Gaza have been in touch with the Foreign Office.
During the press conference, he said the UK was pushing for a pause in the fighting between Israel and Hamas to allow aid to reach Palestinians and also create a “safer environment” for UK citizens to leave the bombarded 25-mile strip.
In a press conference held on Wednesday in Cairo, the head of Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS), Diaa Rashwan, blamed Israel for impeding the exit of foreign nationals trapped in the Gaza Strip through the Rafah Crossing after shelling the roads leading to the crossing on the Palestinian side.
Egypt has called for an immediate, sustainable, and non-conditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a cessation of all attempts to displace Palestinians from their land by force.
Rishi Sunak visited Cairo five days ago and met President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, with whom he discussed the latest developments in Gaza and Israel.
