During the summer transfer window, Napoli showed interest in Nayef Aguerd but West Ham clang to the Moroccan player’s services.
Rabat – Moroccan international and West Ham’s center back Nayef Aguerd scored his first goal of the season for the Hammers in their 3-1 London derby win over Chelsea on Matchday 2 of the Premier League on August 20.
The Moroccan international opened the scoring in the 7th minute to give his team the lead. Taking advantage of a corner ball from his teammate James Ward-Prowse, Aguerd jumped high to head home a magnificent goal.
The Moroccan center-back did not finish the match, however. In the second half, Aguerd was sent off after accumulating two yellow cards for a foul on Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Despite his expulsion, Aguerd expressed his delight at the end of the match, which ended in a 3-1 victory for his team.
“It was a great win against Chelsea in our first home game of the season. I’m very happy to have scored my first goal of the season in front of our fans, and it’s a boost for the rest of the competition,” the Moroccan defender said.
West Ham’s second goal was scored by Michail Antonio in the 53rd minute, while Lucas Paqueta scored the third from a penalty kick in the 95th minute.
In July, and during the summer transfer window, Napoli, the winner of last season’s Serie A, top-tier Italian football championship, were reportedly interested in signing the Moroccan center-back.
According to Corriere dello Sport‘s report, Napoli wanted to replace Kim Min-jae, who recently joined Bayern Munich. This was bad news for West Ham as they planned to keep Aguerd’s services ahead of the new season.
A major hurdle could be the Italian club’s reluctance to pay West Ham’s 35 million euros asking price for Aguerd.
