Morocco Ranks 3rd Bagging 89 Medals at Arab Sports Games in Algeria



Of the 89 medals, 24 were gold, 39 silver, and 26 bronze.

Rabat – In the 13th edition of the Arab Sports Games, held from July 5-15 in Algeria, Morocco has been  placed third among 22 participating sports delegations, with a total of 89 medals, said a press release from the Moroccan National Olympic Committee (CNOM).

Morocco added to their record of achievement 24 gold medals, 39 silver, and 26 bronze medals, including 5 medals in para-athletics, the same source said.

Taking part in the Arab Sports Games were 93 Moroccan athletes who participated in 11 disciplines. 

The most represented disciplines were athletics with 28 athletes, as well as boxing and karate with 14 athletes each.

The rest of the disciplines included 6 participants in cycling, 5 in gymnastics, 3 in weightlifting, 7 in judo, 6 in para-athletics, 3 in petanque, 5 in bocce volo, and 2 in sailing.

According to the same source, the CNOM teams explained the logistical and organizational plans for the journey during this tournament and urged the athletes to give their all in order to honorably represent the Kingdom of Morocco.

On the fifth day of the same competition, the Moroccan cycling team won the gold medal in the Team Time Trial (TTT) race, by completing a 58.5-kilometer distance in 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 59 seconds.

After them came the Algerian team, crossing the finish line with a time record of 1 hour 20 minutes 8 seconds. 

The team representing the United Arab Emirates followed third with 1 hour 28 minutes 9 seconds, while the Saudi cyclists finished fourth with 1 hour 30 minutes 46 seconds.
