Tunisian media regulator to sue Prime Minister Najla Bouden for appointing public radio CEO

Tunisian media regulator Haica announced on Saturday its intention to sue Prime Minister Najla Bouden over the appointment of Henda Ben Alaya Ghribi as the new CEO of state media “Radio Tunisienne” without consultation – violation of the decree-law 16.

Ghribi was promoted to the post last Friday by a decree issued by President Kais Saied.

However Haica in a statement said the appointment is illegal and violated Decree Law 16 which requires the Authority to consult him for any appointment. The regulator asked Bouden to make the decision. The regulator also called on journalists to defend their independence and not to succumb to instructions contrary to the rules of the profession and ethics.
