High School Interact Clubs Raise Funds to Support Libyan Disaster Relief

Love for Libya benefit concert featured performances from student bands and musicians

The Carihi and Timberline Interact clubs presented the Love for Libya benefit concert on Nov. 29, bringing community members together to appreciate local youth musicians and support Interact’s fundraising efforts towards the recent Libyan flooding.

The event was held at Carihi Secondary School’s multipurpose room, featuring incredible performances from student bands and musicians throughout the evening. Generous attendees showed their support though donations upon entrance, purchasing delicious treats from the bake sale, and participating in the silent auction.

The Interact Clubs, known for their commitment to “Service Above Self,” organized the concert as part of their ongoing efforts to promote international understanding and act on global issues. The fundraising efforts addressed the consequences of a powerful storm that devastated various regions of Libya in early September 2023. Thousands of people were killed, and tens of thousands went missing or are displaced. The floods also damaged infrastructure, crops, livestock, and have therefore created a humanitarian crisis in Libya. The floods were considered one of the worst natural disasters in Libya’s history and raised questions about the impact of climate change on the region.

All proceeds from the event were donated directly from Carihi Secondary School to the United Nation’s efforts in Libya. The UNHCR supports the victims of the Libyan flooding by providing aid to the affected areas, including emergency medical supplies, food, water purification kits, and shelter material.

The Carihi and Timberline Interact Clubs extend thanks to all performers, volunteers, attendees, and local businesses who donated to the silent auction. The community-wide effort made Love for Libya a success, gathering a final sum of $2,500 to donate to the UNHCR.
