Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry warned against international disregard for the crisis in Sudan in a meeting on Sunday with Annette Weber, the European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the Horn of Africa.
The Egyptian FM stressed that it was imperative to fully respect Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He also emphasized preserving the Sudanese state and its capabilities and institutions and prioritizing a serious and comprehensive approach to addressing the humanitarian consequences of the current crisis.
Furthermore, Shoukry urged countries and donors to honour their commitments at the UN Donor Conference in June.
During the conference, donors pledged close to $1.5 billion to combat the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and help its neighbours host refugees fleeing the fighting.
For her part, the EU’s envoy expressed a strong appreciation for Egypt’s significant role in the region, emphasizing the EU’s commitment to ongoing coordination with Egypt on all relevant regional matters.
Fighting between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out in Khartoum on 15 April 2023.

Egypt has received over 310,000 Sudanese who have fled their country between 15 April and late September, according to previous remarks by Shoukry.
