Germany Seeks to Enhance Migration Cooperation With Morocco

Germany’s Minister of Interior Nancy Faeser has highlighted the crucial importance of addressing migration in the context of the strong relationship between Morocco and Germany.

Faeser made the statement in a press briefing today following her meeting with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

She said that both countries play a significant role in the migration landscape, not only as destinations for migrants but also as transit countries.

For this reason, she underlined the need for cooperative efforts to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by migration. She anticipates that cooperation in this field will yield highly positive and fruitful results for both countries.

Faeser said that Germany aims to establish a bilateral agreement with Morocco on migration, further deepening their collaboration in this area.

Beyond migration, the German minister emphasized the need for the two countries to consolidate bilateral cooperation across domains of common concerns, notably in the areas of security, combating organized crime, human trafficking, and terrorism.

Faeser, who is on an official visit to Morocco, also met with the Moroccan minister of the interior Abdelouafi Laftif.

She expressed her satisfaction with the signing of a joint declaration of intent between the interior ministries of both countries. The declaration aims to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including security and migration.
